Transmission flush
I was somewhat more awake during my morning meditation. I saw my mind paying attention to signs, mostly discomforts, from my body and staying with the breath for the most part. However, I also observed how it went a few times toward "transmission flush," scheduled for my Murano later today.
Why is this expensive, my mind wondered. The flush takes only about 1.5 hours, why it should cost $800? I better do it this month, when I still got my last check from my employer, my mind was telling me, as it could be harder to do later on.
These thoughts signal to me that I am concerned about the financial aspects of my (our, with wife) retirement. According to my preliminary calculations, our household income will be roughly reduced by 50%. This will have an impact on our life style, no doubt about it. This 'transmission" from "employment income" to so called "fixed income" will be quite a flush.
As countless people before us, we will have no choice but to adapt. I used to add 300 km every week to my car when working. Now, I barely use it. Perhaps I could take massage less often, or, even better, start exchanges massages with Dusia. Perhaps we could use services of a dental hygienist less often? Perhaps we will fly to Europe less often?
Heath related expenses are what worries me the most. Two of the insurance plans for retirees I reviewed so far, seem to be expensive propositions, set to bring profits for the insurance companies. It looks we'll have to do without them. We are, overall, quite healthy, and we do not need private rooms in a hospital. We just need to walk our dog more regularly. I am glad Dusia joined me for a few evening walks. Even Ged seemed to enjoy it, especially when she ran with him.
So as you may see, in meditation, and in daily functioning, my mind is very much concerned with the body and its needs. Enjoying "pure awareness" is still a far fetched goal. Perhaps tomorrow it will be easier.
Now, I need to leave for the "transmission flush."
